Surge in flu cases sweeps across the kingdom as health experts urge vaccination and caution

A vicious and virulent strain of influenza has rapidly spread across the kingdom, leaving people of all ages struggling with sore throats, runny noses, high fevers, and fatigue. The sudden spike in cases has prompted doctors and health authorities to issue strong warnings and encourage residents to get vaccinated and take preventive measures to curb the spread of the illness.

Hospitals and clinics are reporting a sharp increase in patient numbers, particularly among children and school-aged individuals, as the virus circulates swiftly through classrooms and family households.

“Most cases are starting in schools, with entire families becoming infected,” explained Professor Mohammed Elbeltagi, senior pediatric consultant at the University Medical Centre, King Abdullah Medical City. “Over the past week, nearly 50 percent of the patients in my clinic have tested positive for influenza,” he added.

Health experts are urging citizens to remain vigilant and stay home if symptomatic, wear face masks to reduce transmission, and ensure proper hydration and rest for recovery. Parents have also been advised to keep children at home if they develop flu-like symptoms to prevent outbreaks in classrooms.

Professor Elbeltagi further warned that a child should see a doctor immediately if they experience a persistent high fever, rapid or difficult breathing, chest pain, severe cough, extreme tiredness, or refusal to drink fluids, as these may indicate more serious complications.

Officials emphasize that early diagnosis and timely medical care can prevent the flu from developing into severe respiratory infections. Vaccination remains the most effective defense, and people are encouraged to get their seasonal flu shots as cases continue to rise.
