Disney+’s live-action Eragon series remains on track as development continues in 2026

As of January 2026, the long-awaited live-action Eragon television series remains in active development at Disney+, with author Christopher Paolini confirming that the project is “still on track.” While fan excitement has surged online, fuelled by comparisons to other fantasy heavyweights, the series is still progressing through Hollywood’s notoriously slow early stages.

The adaptation, based on Paolini’s bestselling Inheritance Cycle, is being developed by 20th Television for Disney+. Unlike the 2006 film adaptation, which was widely criticized for straying from the source material, the new series aims to deliver a far more faithful and expansive retelling of the beloved fantasy saga.

The goal is a character-driven, world-rich fantasy epic that can unfold over multiple seasons, allowing Eragon’s journey from farm boy to Dragon Rider to develop organically.

As of early 2026, there have been no official casting announcements or confirmed production dates. With physical production yet to begin, industry expectations suggest a premiere before late 2026 is unlikely, with 2027 appearing more realistic if development proceeds smoothly.
