Sharjah Ruler Establishes Sharjah Cycling Club to Elevate Emirate’s Sporting Future
His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has issued an Emiri Decree establishing and regulating the Sharjah Cycling Club, a major step toward nurturing competitive cycling, promoting healthy lifestyles and elevating the emirate’s sporting profile locally and internationally.
Under the decree, the Sharjah Cycling Club will operate as an independent legal entity under the supervision of the Sharjah Sports Council. Its headquarters will be located in Sharjah City, with the possibility of expanding into other areas of the emirate upon approval.

Core Responsibilities-
To achieve these goals, the club is tasked with:

Setting policies and strategic plans for cycling activities across the emirate.

Developing a new generation of leadership and expertise in the cycling sector.

Overseeing the creation of cycling tracks and coordinating events with relevant authorities.

Representing Sharjah in local, regional and international cycling matters.

Leading awareness and promotional campaigns to spread a culture of cycling.

Organising and hosting festivals, competitions, conferences and community events.

Providing training programmes and forming competitive sports teams to nurture top talent.

Offering resources and support to expand public participation in sporting and cultural activities.

Collaborating with domestic and international clubs, federations and institutions.

Proposing new legislation related to cycling and supporting excellence through quality systems.

Establishing commercial companies for sports or investment purposes with Sports Council approval.
Governance and Membership-
The club will be overseen by a board of directors consisting of a president, vice president and members appointed by the Ruler or his representative. Board members serve four-year terms, with the option for renewal.
Membership conditions include:

Must be a UAE citizen.

Must have full legal capacity and good character with no moral-crime convictions unless civil rights are restored.

Minimum age of 21.

Must not serve on another club’s board of directors.

Must hold at least a high school diploma.
Membership may be terminated due to death, resignation, loss of eligibility or repeated absences from meetings.
Board Duties and Executive Leadership-
The board will act as the club’s highest authority, responsible for:

Supervising operations and issuing internal regulations.

Preparing financial and administrative frameworks.

Forming committees and approving annual budgets.

Representing the club in partnerships and agreements.

Appointing the CEO and key staff.

The club will also appoint a full-time executive director, approved by the Sports Council, who will manage day-to-day operations and support the club’s long-term vision.
