Two Major Parks Planned in Riyadh as Part of Vision 2030 Green Space Push

Authorities in Riyadh have unveiled plans to develop two major public parks spanning more than 310,000 square metres as part of ongoing efforts to expand green spaces and enhance urban livability under Saudi Vision 2030.

The Riyadh Region Municipality confirmed that the new parks will be located in the eastern and southern districts of the capital. The developments form part of a broader strategy to reshape Riyadh’s urban environment by moving beyond traditional park designs toward integrated “urban destinations” that combine recreation, culture and environmental sustainability.

A defining feature of the project is a scenic valley that will act as both a visual centrepiece and a functional element across the two sites. Municipal officials said the parks are intended to strengthen the city’s urban fabric by offering high-quality public spaces that support healthier lifestyles and community engagement.

Planned facilities across the combined 317,200-square-metre footprint include a golf course, multi-purpose sports fields and dedicated jogging tracks. Families will have access to children’s play areas and water features, while a theatre and designated event spaces are expected to transform the parks into cultural and social hubs for residents.

“These parks represent high-quality developments aimed at expanding public spaces across the capital,” the municipality said in a statement. Officials added that a range of commercial amenities, including restaurants and cafés, will be integrated into the design to ensure the areas remain active throughout the day and into the evening.

The initiative follows a series of large-scale environmental and urban development projects across the Kingdom, as authorities increasingly prioritise livability alongside rapid population growth and infrastructure expansion in the capital.

According to the municipality, the parks have been designed with environmental sensitivity in mind, incorporating innovative greening techniques suited to Riyadh’s arid climate while promoting sustainable water management practices.
