Saudi Arabia Hosts Mountain Hike to Celebrate International Mountain Day
The Saudi Climbing and Hiking Federation, under the supervision of the Ministry of Sport branch in the Najran Region and in collaboration with public and private entities, organised a mountain hike in Wadi Mughaydid (Shaib Mughaydid) to mark International Mountain Day. The event attracted sixty participants eager to explore the region’s natural landscapes.
The initiative aimed to introduce participants to the mountain environment, promote ecological awareness, and encourage hikers and visitors to protect natural areas under the slogan “Leave No Trace.”
Hiking, a sport centred on mountain and nature walks, allows enthusiasts to explore forested or rugged mountainous areas along mapped routes under the guidance of specialised instructors, far from urban congestion.
A Saudi Press Agency (SPA) camera accompanied the hiking team along the Wadi Mughaydid trail, capturing participants’ journey through pristine landscapes. Several hiking enthusiasts joined the trip, guided by a select team of experts ensuring safety and environmental respect throughout the hike.
The event highlights Saudi Arabia’s ongoing efforts to promote outdoor sports, eco-tourism, and environmental preservation, while encouraging people to connect with the country’s natural heritage.
