UAE Skies to Light Up with Spectacular Perseid Meteor Shower on August 12

The UAE is gearing up for a celestial spectacle as the Perseid meteor shower reaches its dazzling peak on the night of August 12–13, offering a rare and beautiful opportunity for skywatchers across the region. Known for producing up to 100 meteors per hour, this year’s display promises to be a highlight despite the bright moonlight

The best viewing experiences await away from city lights. Top locations include the Al Quaa Milky Way Spot (Abu Dhabi), Al Qudra Desert (Dubai), Jebel Jais (Ras Al Khaimah), Mleiha Desert, and the Hatta Mountains. For those seeking organized events, the Dubai Astronomy Group will host stargazing sessions at Jebel Jais and Al Awir Desert  while the Mleiha Archaeological Centre will also welcome visitors for meteor observations

To make the most of the show, experts recommend watching from midnight to pre-dawn hours, lying on a blanket or reclining chair, and facing away from the Moon, toward the northeast sky where the constellation Perseus the meteor shower’s radiant will rise. Bring water, snacks, and warm layers, and allow at least 30 minutes for your eyes to adjust to the darkness.

Though the nearly full moon may obscure many faint meteors, the brightest streaks especially “fireballs” should still be visible during clear conditions
