Milan hosts 2026 Winter Olympics opening ceremony at San Siro Stadium
The opening ceremony of the 2026 Winter Olympics was held at Milan’s iconic San Siro Stadium, marking a historic moment as the legendary sporting venue celebrated its 100th anniversary this year.
The ceremony blended sport, music, and fashion, highlighting both global talent and Italian cultural heritage. One of the night’s most significant moments came when Team USA’s Erin Jackson made history as the first Black woman to carry the United States flag at the Winter Games.
Music took center stage with a special performance by Mariah Carey, who delivered a rendition of the Italian classic Volare, earning widespread applause from the international audience.
Fashion also played a prominent role in the spectacle. Italian model Vittoria Ceretti appeared in a custom white Armani Privé gown, created as a tribute to the late fashion designer Giorgio Armani. The moment served as a poignant homage to Armani’s enduring influence on Italian and global fashion.
The ceremony set the tone for the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, combining tradition and modernity while celebrating milestones in sport, culture, and design.
