Bahrain Marks 100 Years of Theatre at Fourth National Festival

Manama - The Kingdom of Bahrain has opened the Fourth National Theatre Festival, marking 100 years of Bahraini theatre and celebrating the nation’s enduring passion for the performing arts.

Launched on November 4, the festival coincides with the centenary of Bahrain’s theatrical tradition, underscoring the country’s historic role as a cultural leader in the Gulf region. The week-long celebration features live performances by local theatre troupes, creative workshops, and tributes to pioneering artists who helped establish the nation’s theatre movement in the early 20th century.

“This year we celebrate 100 years of theatre in Bahrain, a source of pride for all Bahrainis,” said Al Ruwaie, emphasizing that the fourth edition of the festival “reaffirms that our stage remains alive and successful.”

Veteran artist Majeda Sultan praised the remarkable growth of Bahrain’s artistic scene, attributing its success to generations of performers and directors who built its foundation.

“Art in Bahrain has always been advanced, thanks to the older generations who paved the way and showed us its development,” she said, describing Bahrain as “a culturally rich nation” and encouraging the public to attend the plays and support local talent.

The Fourth National Theatre Festival not only celebrates a century of creativity but also reaffirms Bahrain’s commitment to preserving and evolving its cultural heritage ensuring that the spotlight continues to shine on its vibrant performing arts community.
