Global Village Celebrates Emirati Tradition of Haq Al Laila in Four-Day Festivities

Global Village will bring the Emirati tradition of Haq Al Laila to life with a four-day celebration from January 31 to February 3, offering families and visitors an immersive cultural experience that honours one of the UAE’s oldest social customs rooted in generosity, joy and shared heritage.

The celebration coincides with the 15th night of Shaaban, a cherished occasion in Emirati culture that brings families together and reinforces the importance of passing traditions from one generation to the next. Through a dedicated programme of activities, Global Village aims to highlight the cultural significance of Haq Al Laila while engaging visitors of all ages.

Festivities will take place opposite the main stage, where children can take part in creative arts and crafts workshops, interactive games and live encounters with traditional performers. As part of the experience, specially prepared Haq Al Laila gift bags will be distributed, reflecting the spirit of giving that defines the occasion.

The Heritage Village will form the centrepiece of the celebrations, showcasing traditional Emirati life through authentic costumes, accessories, classic and modern sweet baskets, popular confections and decorative tableware associated with Haq Al Laila.

A dedicated Haq Al Laila drone show will add a visual highlight to the programme, lighting up the sky on Sunday at 7:35pm following evening prayers.

The festivities form part of Global Village’s newly launched Season of Affection, which links Haq Al Laila with Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr as interconnected cultural and spiritual milestones that shape the rhythm of life in the UAE.
