India Successfully Test Fires Agni Prime Missile with 2,000 km Range from Rail-Based Mobile Platform
In a significant step toward enhancing its strategic strike capabilities, India has successfully test-fired the Agni Prime missile from a rail-based mobile launcher. The test, conducted at night, validated the missile's operational readiness and precision.
Developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Agni Prime (also called Agni-P) is a new-generation nuclear-capable ballistic missile in the Agni series. With a range of up to 2,000 kilometers, the missile is capable of striking high-value targets with high accuracy.
What makes this test unique is the use of a rail-based mobile platform, a feature that significantly increases the missile's survivability by enabling mobility and concealment. This platform allows India’s strategic forces to move launch assets across vast terrain, improving the country’s second-strike capability.
The successful test strengthens India’s deterrence posture and underscores the country’s commitment to maintaining a credible minimum deterrent.
