Ma’an and Sustainable Future Initiative set Guinness World Record for largest underwater clean-up

The Authority of Social Contribution, Ma’an, in collaboration with the Sustainable Future Initiative (SFI), has achieved a remarkable milestone by earning a Guinness World Record for organizing the largest underwater cleanup held at multiple locations.

The record-breaking initiative, titled ‘Beneath the Blue – Underwater Cleanup,’ took place on November 8, 2025, bringing together more than 300 licensed volunteer divers from across the UAE. The synchronized effort was conducted simultaneously at two locations, Fishermen Sea Port in Al Taweelah and The Cove in Abu Dhabi.

During the 15-minute mission, divers worked in perfect coordination to collect over one tonne of marine debris, showcasing the power of teamwork, environmental commitment, and community spirit.

Prior to the cleanup, all participants underwent comprehensive safety and environmental training sessions led by certified dive instructors and environmental experts. These briefings ensured that the operation adhered to the highest standards of safety and sustainability, reflecting the organizers’ commitment to responsible environmental action.

Through the ‘Beneath the Blue’ initiative, Ma’an aims to inspire environmental responsibility and encourage community members to take part in meaningful social and environmental projects. The authority continues to prioritize initiatives that promote sustainability and address social needs, aligning with its mission to build a more inclusive and environmentally conscious society.

By engaging volunteers from diverse backgrounds, the project also demonstrated the importance of collective action in protecting marine ecosystems and preserving natural resources for future generations.

Officials from both Ma’an and SFI expressed pride in the recognition, emphasizing that the Guinness World Record stands as a testament to what can be achieved through collaboration and shared purpose. “This record highlights the UAE’s growing commitment to sustainability and our collective responsibility to keep our oceans clean and thriving,” they said.
