Oman Extends Visa Amnesty Scheme Until December 31, 2025
Muscat: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) have urged foreign nationals violating visa regulations to make use of the ongoing amnesty program, which allows them to regularize their residency status or leave the country without penalties.
The announcement follows a circular issued by the Ministry of Labour, confirming the extension of the amnesty period until December 31, 2025. The ROP clarified that this will be the final extension of the scheme, encouraging all eligible individuals to act promptly to benefit from the program.
Key Provisions of the Amnesty Scheme
The ROP outlined two main categories under which visa violators can take advantage of the scheme:
-
For residents wishing to stay in Oman:
-
Foreign nationals can renew their residence permits or transfer their employment within the Sultanate.
-
They will be exempted from all fines arising from the expiry of their entry or residence permits (for work visa holders).
-
The Ministry of Labour must verify and approve the status correction process before it is finalized.
-
-
For those wishing to leave Oman permanently:
-
Foreign nationals intending to exit the country permanently will also be exempted from all fines associated with the termination of non-work-related visas, such as visit or family visas.
-
Final Opportunity for Compliance
The Royal Oman Police emphasized that this grace period is a final opportunity for individuals in violation of visa rules to resolve their legal status and avoid penalties or deportation.
Authorities also reminded residents and employers to complete all necessary procedures through official channels, ensuring that records are updated in compliance with Oman’s residency and labor regulations.
The amnesty extension reflects Oman’s continued efforts to balance humanitarian considerations with regulatory enforcement, providing flexibility for expatriates while maintaining order within the labour and immigration systems.
