Universal Studios Plans New Theme Park in Saudi Arabia

Universal Studios is planning to establish a new theme park in Saudi Arabia, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal. The project is still in its early stages, with the Comcast-owned company preparing initial concepts for the park.

The report stated that the theme park may be financed by an entity backed by the Saudi government through a licensing agreement with Universal. This move reflects Saudi Arabia’s growing focus on expanding its entertainment and tourism sectors.

Comcast Chief Executive Officer Brian Roberts reportedly visited Saudi Arabia last month during an investment conference. During his trip, he also toured Qiddiya, a large-scale entertainment and sports development near Riyadh, which is being considered as the potential site for the Universal theme park.

The planned park aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 initiative, which aims to diversify the nation’s economy and reduce its dependence on oil by investing in sectors such as tourism, entertainment, and culture.

Saudi Arabia is already making significant progress in this area, with the country’s first major theme park, Six Flags Qiddiya City, scheduled to open in Riyadh on December 31.
