Arab and Islamic nations condemn US envoy remarks on Israeli control of Arab territories
Fourteen Arab and Islamic countries, along with the Gulf Cooperation Council, the League of Arab States, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, have strongly condemned remarks by U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee suggesting acceptance of Israeli control over Arab territories, including the occupied West Bank.
In a joint statement, the countries described the comments as “dangerous and inflammatory,” warning that they undermine regional stability and contradict longstanding international consensus on the status of occupied Palestinian territories.
The signatories stressed that any suggestion of legitimizing Israeli control over the West Bank violates international law and relevant United Nations resolutions and risks escalating tensions at a time when diplomatic efforts are focused on de-escalation.
The statement also referenced the vision of former U.S. President Donald Trump, arguing that the envoy’s remarks run counter to stated efforts aimed at reducing tensions and advancing prospects for Palestinian statehood through dialogue.
The coalition reaffirmed its support for a two-state solution based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital of a future Palestinian state, and called on the international community to uphold international law and prevent unilateral measures that could alter the legal and historical status of occupied territories.
The coordinated response highlights growing regional sensitivity over diplomatic rhetoric concerning sovereignty and territorial control, amid ongoing efforts to contain unrest and revive negotiations in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
