Australia suspends tourist visa entry for Iranians for six months amid migration concerns
Australia has announced a temporary suspension on the entry of Iranian nationals holding tourist visas in a move aimed at safeguarding migration integrity.
The decision was confirmed by Tony Burke, who stated that the six-month restriction comes into effect immediately. The measure is part of the government’s broader efforts to manage immigration risks amid evolving global conditions.
The restriction is expected to affect around 7,000 visa holders. However, authorities have clarified that exemptions will apply to certain categories. Immediate family members of Australian citizens and permanent residents, as well as long-term visa holders, will not be impacted by the suspension.
Officials emphasized that the move is precautionary and aligned with national interest priorities, particularly in the context of shifting geopolitical dynamics and increased global uncertainty.
The government has reiterated that Australia’s immigration system remains responsive and adaptable, with policies designed to balance security, humanitarian considerations, and international obligations.
While the suspension is temporary, authorities will continue to monitor the situation closely over the coming months before making any further decisions.
