Cold wave to hit Bahrain as temperatures drop to near 11°C
Winter conditions have arrived in Bahrain as the Meteorological Directorate issued an alert for a significant cold wave set to begin on Sunday evening, December 28, 2025, and continue until Thursday, January 1, 2026.
According to the update, minimum temperatures are expected to drop to between 11°C and 13°C across most areas. Due to wind chill, “feels-like” temperatures may be lower, potentially dipping to 9°C in some locations, particularly during the night and early morning hours.
The cold spell will be accompanied by a return of strong northwesterly winds, which are forecast to intensify on Tuesday and Wednesday (December 30–31). Wind speeds could reach 22 to 27 knots at times, contributing to the sharp drop in perceived temperatures.
Active winds may also lead to blowing dust and reduced horizontal visibility in exposed areas. Marine conditions are expected to be unsettled, with offshore wave heights ranging between 3 and 6 feet, prompting caution for seafarers and small craft operators.
Meteorologists indicated that the cold wave is likely to peak on Tuesday and Wednesday, when daytime temperatures are expected to remain relatively low, with maximum highs reaching only 17°C to 19°C.
Residents are advised to take necessary precautions during the cold spell, particularly during late-night and early-morning hours, while motorists and marine users are urged to remain alert to changing weather and sea conditions. Further updates will be issued by the Meteorological Directorate as the situation develops.
