Bahrain Declares June 26, 2025, as Official Holiday to Mark Hijri New Year

His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and Prime Minister, has officially declared Thursday, June 26, 2025, as a public holiday across the Kingdom of Bahrain in celebration of the Hijri New Year.

According to the announcement, all ministries, government agencies, and public institutions will be closed on this day to honor the beginning of the Islamic lunar calendar year. The decision reflects the Kingdom’s continued respect for religious and cultural traditions, providing citizens and residents the opportunity to observe and reflect during this significant Islamic occasion.

The Hijri New Year, also known as Al Hijra, commemorates the Prophet Muhammad’s migration (Hijrah) from Mecca to Medina — an event that marks the beginning of the Islamic calendar.

This gesture by HRH Prince Salman has been welcomed widely, with many expressing appreciation for the acknowledgment of Islamic heritage and values.
