Bahrain to enforce annual midday work ban from June 15 to protect outdoor workers
The Kingdom of Bahrain will enforce its annual midday work ban from June 15 to August 31, as part of ongoing efforts to protect outdoor workers from extreme summer heat.
The regulation, introduced each year by the Ministry of Labour Bahrain, prohibits outdoor work under direct sunlight during peak daytime hours, typically between 12:00 pm and 4:00 pm. The measure is aimed at reducing the risk of heat stress, dehydration, and other heat-related illnesses among workers, particularly in sectors such as construction and industrial services.
Authorities have stressed that employers must strictly adhere to the rule and ensure a safe working environment. Companies are required to adjust working hours, provide shaded rest areas, and supply adequate drinking water and cooling facilities for their employees.
The ministry conducts regular inspections throughout the enforcement period to ensure compliance. Violations can result in legal penalties, including fines and other administrative actions, as part of Bahrain’s broader commitment to labour rights and occupational safety.
Each year, the midday work ban is supported by awareness campaigns that educate both employers and workers about the dangers of prolonged exposure to high temperatures. Officials have highlighted that the initiative has significantly contributed to reducing heat-related incidents over the years.
The move reflects Bahrain’s continued focus on safeguarding worker welfare, especially during the intense summer months when temperatures can rise sharply across the region.
