Daniel Radcliffe Welcomes HBO’s New Young Harry Potter Lead with Heartfelt Letter
Daniel Radcliffe has officially passed the wand to the next generation, penning a warm and encouraging letter to Dominic McLaughlin, the young actor set to portray Harry Potter in HBO’s highly anticipated reboot. With filming now underway, Radcliffe’s gesture marks a symbolic blessing for the new series and its rising cast of young stars.
Dominic McLaughlin will lead the new adaptation alongside Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. All three are newcomers to global stardom McLaughlin previously appeared in the Sky comedy Grow, Stanton shone as Matilda in the West End production, and Stout joins the franchise with no prior acting credits. The trio emerged from a staggering field of more than 30,000 auditioning children, securing the iconic roles that will define the new decade-long retelling of the beloved book series.
The cast expands with Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, and Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley, joining a powerhouse lineup of established actors including John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Snape, and Nick Frost as Hagrid. This blend of new and veteran talent sets the stage for a robust and ambitious reimagining of the Wizarding World.
Filming is currently taking place at Warner Bros Studios Leavesden near Watford, with the first season scheduled to debut in 2027. In an undertaking mirroring the scale of the original films, the entire project is expected to span 10 years, with one season dedicated to each of J.K. Rowling’s seven books. To support the young cast through this monumental journey, Warner Bros has constructed a temporary school on-site, ensuring the actors can keep up with their education while they bring Hogwarts to life. A true case of life imitating magic.
