Dubai Set to Roll Out Glydways Autonomous Transit Network in 2026 Trial

Dubai is preparing to take another major step toward futuristic mobility with the launch of the Glydways autonomous transit network, scheduled to begin later this year as part of a pilot phase. The initiative is being led by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in collaboration with US-based mobility technology firm Glydways.

Speaking on the sidelines of the World Governments Summit 2026, Glydways CEO Mark Seeger confirmed that the first phase of operations is expected to roll out within the next four months. The trial aims to demonstrate how autonomous, on-demand transit can help ease congestion and improve connectivity in high-traffic urban zones.

Glydways specializes in personal rapid transit (PRT) systems that use small, driverless electric vehicles operating on dedicated guideways. The vehicles provide point-to-point travel, reducing reliance on traditional road networks and offering a quieter, more efficient alternative for short urban trips.

The initial deployment in Dubai will focus on four key locations. In Bluewaters, a planned route will link the National Paints Metro Station with Bluewaters Island. In Umm Suqeim, the system may connect the Mall of the Emirates Metro Station to Madinat Jumeirah, offering a seamless last-mile solution for residents and tourists.

In Al Quoz, the proposed corridor is expected to run from OnPassive through Alserkal Avenue and extend toward Times Square Centre, serving one of Dubai’s most vibrant cultural and commercial districts. Meanwhile, Dubai Festival City will host an internal Glydways network, with the possibility of a future connection to the upcoming Dubai Metro Blue Line.

The project reflects Dubai’s broader ambition to become a global leader in autonomous transportation. As the city continues to invest in next-generation mobility solutions, Glydways could play a key role in reshaping how people move across urban spaces.
