Dubai RTA completes 67 rapid traffic improvement projects in 2025, cuts travel time by up to 45%
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed 67 rapid traffic improvement projects across the emirate in 2025, delivering significant gains in road efficiency, traffic flow, and safety. The initiatives form part of a broader strategy to support Dubai’s fast-paced urban growth and rising mobility demands.
The completed works included 46 upgrades at critical locations on major arterial roads and within residential neighborhoods, 12 targeted interventions benefiting more than 30 schools, and nine enhancements across key development areas. Together, these measures reduced travel times by up to 45 percent in several locations and increased vehicle capacity by as much as 33 percent on selected corridors.
Building on this momentum, RTA is preparing to roll out more than 45 additional traffic improvement measures in 2026. The upcoming projects will focus on widening and upgrading major intersections, improving entry and exit points in residential and commercial districts, and delivering further rapid traffic solutions around school zones. These efforts reflect RTA’s continued commitment to sustainable infrastructure development, easing congestion, improving connectivity, and enhancing overall quality of life across the city.
In 2025, RTA’s high-impact traffic solutions delivered measurable improvements in several densely populated areas, including Al Warqa’a, Al Barsha South, Nad Al Hamar, and Al Ras. Major gains were also recorded along key corridors such as Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Meydan Street, Emirates Road towards Sharjah, Umm Al Sheif Street, Al Wasl Street, Ras Al Khor Road, Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street and Al Manara Street.
Among the most notable upgrades was the widening of Sheikh Zayed Road towards Al Meydan Street, where lanes were increased from two to three at the entrance to Al Khawaneej. Al Meydan Bridge was expanded from three to four lanes, while the exit from Sheikh Zayed Road to Al Meydan Street was widened from one lane to two. Additional enhancements improved connectivity between surface roads and the bridge, easing bottlenecks during peak hours.
At the intersection of Al Wasl Street and Al Manara Street, targeted interventions resulted in a 50 percent increase in vehicular capacity and reduced waiting times by more than 30 percent, significantly improving traffic flow in the area.
Improving safety and efficiency around schools remained a key priority in 2025. RTA implemented 12 traffic improvement measures serving over 30 schools, including the Al Warqa’a First School Complex, Mizhar First School Complex, Al Qusais School Complex, Al Mawakeb School in Al Garhoud, English College in Al Safa 1, Zayed Educational Complex in Mizhar 4, and the Al Barsha South School Complex.
These upgrades included dedicated parking areas, improved entry and exit points, and traffic calming measures. As a result, congestion and queuing during peak school hours were significantly reduced, while road safety and efficiency in school zones were markedly improved.
