Etihad Rail ensures uninterrupted cargo movement across UAE amid regional crisis

As regional tensions escalate due to the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, the resilience of national infrastructure is being put to the test. In the UAE, the country’s rail network has demonstrated its strength during the crisis, with Etihad Rail maintaining uninterrupted freight operations across the nation.

Over the past 11 days, while the Middle East has remained at the centre of the conflict, Etihad Rail has continued to transport cargo safely across the UAE’s national railway network, ensuring that supply chains remain stable and goods continue to move without disruption.

According to the Abu Dhabi Media Office, the rail network has operated more than 100 freight trips within nine days. During this period, the system transported over 459,000 tonnes of cargo along with more than 7,900 containers across the country.

To strengthen logistics capacity and maintain smooth cargo flow, additional rail corridors have also been activated. Authorities have redirected multimodal logistics capacity towards the UAE’s East Coast ports, particularly the Al Ghail Dry Port terminal. This move has been supported by the operation of five additional train services aimed at improving efficiency and ensuring the continuity of freight transport.

Omar Al Subaey, CEO of Etihad Rail Freight, emphasised that the national railway network was designed with resilience in mind.

“The UAE National Rail Network was designed to enhance the resilience and reliability of the country’s logistics and supply chains,” he said.

Al Subaey added that Etihad Rail continues to play a critical role in supporting the movement of goods across the country, allowing businesses to rely on a secure and efficient transport system even during challenging times.

“Etihad Rail’s freight services continue to play a pivotal role in ensuring the uninterrupted flow of goods across the UAE, enabling businesses to rely on a safe, efficient and reliable transport network,” he said.

He further noted that the company’s teams remain in constant coordination with national authorities to ensure freight services continue smoothly and contribute to supporting the UAE’s economy during the ongoing regional situation.
