Expats in Bahrain Urged to Verify SIO Registration to Secure End-of-Service Benefits

Manama, Bahrain – October 17, 2025

Expatriates working in Bahrain’s private sector have been urged to confirm that they are registered with the Social Insurance Organisation (SIO) by their employers in order to qualify for their end-of-service indemnity (gratuity).

The recommendation was made during an online workshop held yesterday, titled ‘End of Service Benefit System for Non-Bahrainis Working in the Private Sector’.

Speakers stressed that SIO registration is essential for expatriate employees to access their legally entitled benefits upon the end of their service, including gratuity payments, which are based on length of service and salary.

Participants were informed that it is the employer’s responsibility to register employees with SIO. However, expats were encouraged to proactively check their status and request confirmation if needed, especially in cases where employers may have failed to complete the process.

The SIO portal allows employees to log in using UAE Pass or national ID to check their registration and contribution status.

Labour and legal experts at the workshop advised expatriates to document all employment-related communications, request written proof of registration, and report non-compliance to the relevant authorities if employers do not fulfill their obligations.

The session forms part of Bahrain’s continued efforts to improve transparency, compliance, and protection of worker rights in the private sector, especially for non-citizen employees.
