Hostile drone attack targets Kuwait International Airport, flights suspended
Kuwait International Airport came under attack from multiple hostile drones on Thursday morning, March 12, 2026, according to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation in Kuwait. Authorities confirmed that the strikes caused material damage to airport infrastructure and vital facilities, but no casualties were reported.
DGCA spokesperson Abdullah Al-Rajhi told the Kuwait News Agency that the situation was quickly brought under control after emergency response plans were activated. Following the incident, Kuwait Airways announced the indefinite suspension of all flights after significant damage was reported to Terminal 1, the airport’s runways and fuel depots.
Al-Rajhi said the aviation authority is taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety of civil aviation operations while technical teams conduct damage assessments and begin repair work. The Kuwait Ministry of Defense stated that air defense systems intercepted several additional drones in northern Kuwaiti airspace earlier the same day.
Officials added that debris from the intercepted drones struck power transmission lines, causing partial electricity outages in several areas of the country. In a separate incident, a drone strike on a residential building in southern Kuwait injured two people.
The attacks come amid a broader regional escalation following the start of a conflict on February 28, raising security concerns across several Gulf countries.
