Two New Tugboats Inaugurated at Khalifa Bin Salman Port to Boost Maritime Operations

Hidd, Bahrain – October 16, 2025

Two newly commissioned tugboats have been officially inaugurated at Khalifa Bin Salman Port (KBSP), further enhancing the port’s maritime capabilities and operational efficiency.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, along with executives from Svitzer, the global towage operator, and APM Terminals Bahrain, the port’s operator.

The tugboats have been specifically designed to support vessel berthing, towing, and maneuvering operations, and will play a critical role in streamlining the flow of maritime traffic at Bahrain’s primary commercial seaport.

The addition of these modern tugboats is part of Bahrain’s broader strategy to strengthen logistics infrastructure, improve port performance, and maintain safety and service standards in line with global best practices.

Officials from APM Terminals and Svitzer noted that the vessels will significantly boost KBSP’s operational capacity, especially as the port continues to see growth in container throughput and regional trade activity.

The initiative also supports Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030, aiming to solidify the Kingdom’s status as a regional logistics and shipping hub.
