‘Luna de Seda’ Coming to Bahrain for International Music Festival Performance

As part of the 34th Bahrain International Music Festival, the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA), in collaboration with the French Embassy in Bahrain, will host a captivating live performance by Luna de Seda, a French-Turkish music quartet known for their rich fusion of global sounds. The concert is set to take place on October 8 at 8:00 p.m.

Led by internationally acclaimed French double bassist Renaud Garcia-Fons, the ensemble offers a dynamic and original repertoire that seamlessly blends Eastern and Mediterranean musical traditions including maqam and flamenco with transatlantic influences such as jazz, blues, and Afro-Latin rhythms. Known for his unique five-string double bass and groundbreaking technique, Garcia-Fons is joined on stage by Kiko Ruiz on flamenco guitar, Derya Türkan on the Turkish kemence, and Serkan Halili on kanun, each bringing their own deep-rooted musical heritage into a rich, cross-cultural conversation.

Together, the quartet crafts a genre-defying musical dialogue that bridges East and West, offering Bahraini audiences a rare chance to experience a performance that is as technically masterful as it is emotionally resonant. Garcia-Fons, often described as “the Paganini of the double bass,” has earned numerous international accolades including the Echo Deutscher MusikPreis Jazz Award for Best International Instrumentalist in 2010 and 2011, the BMW Welt Jazz Award in 2017, and the SACEM Grand Prix for Jazz Music in 2021.

The performance is expected to be a standout moment in the festival’s lineup, celebrating the power of music to connect cultures, traditions, and stories from around the world. The Bahrain International Music Festival, organized annually by BACA, remains a central platform for artistic exchange in the Kingdom and a key event on the region’s cultural calendar.
