Manama Suq Set for Major Facelift Under Urban Revitalisation Plan
The historic Old Manama Suq, extending from Al Musaqqaf to Bab Al Bahrain, is set to undergo a major facelift as part of a wider government initiative aimed at revitalising Bahrain’s historic urban centres and enhancing their cultural and economic value.
Tourism Minister Fatima Al Sairafi announced that the first phase of the redevelopment project has been allocated a budget of approximately BD680,000. The initiative focuses on upgrading key areas of the suq while preserving its traditional character and heritage significance.
According to the minister, the initial phase will include work on two landmark locations within the Old Manama Suq, with completion targeted for the fourth quarter of 2026. The project forms part of broader efforts to boost cultural tourism, support local businesses, and improve the overall visitor experience in historic districts.
The facelift is expected to enhance the appeal of one of Bahrain’s most iconic marketplaces, reinforcing Manama’s position as a cultural and commercial hub while safeguarding the architectural and historical identity of the area for future generations.
