Oman Airports Become First in the World to Deploy Wi-Fi 7
Oman Airports has become the first airport operator in the world to deploy Wi-Fi 7, marking a major leap in digital infrastructure and aviation technology, according to local media reports. The next-generation connectivity upgrade, implemented in partnership with Huawei, is now fully active across airports in the Sultanate, offering passengers faster speeds, enhanced security, and highly stable wireless performance.
The rollout spans departure halls, check-in counters, retail areas, and dining zones, supporting the needs of both travelers and essential airport operations. With the new system, airports can better accommodate the digital demands of modern passengers while improving operational efficiency across key touchpoints.
The initiative aligns with Oman Vision 2040, which places strong emphasis on smart infrastructure and world-class digital services. Oman Airports said the achievement is part of its broader strategy to modernise airport services and elevate the passenger experience through continuous innovation.
A key benefit of Wi-Fi 7 is its ultra-high bandwidth, capable of supporting significantly more simultaneous users than previous generations. The upgrade will enhance connectivity for the more than 40,000 daily travelers passing through Muscat International Airport alone.
Ahmed Al Amri, CEO of Oman Airports, described the deployment as “an important milestone in our journey to upgrade the passenger experience and enhance operational efficiency.” He added that pioneering Wi-Fi 7 “reaffirms our commitment to innovation and strengthens Oman Airports’ position as a leader in digital advancement.”
With this milestone, Oman positions itself at the forefront of global aviation technology, setting a new benchmark for digital connectivity in airports worldwide.
