Qatar FM reviews ties with Venezuela’s acting president amid heightened regional diplomacy
Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Delcy Rodríguez in Caracas to review bilateral relations and explore deeper cooperation across key areas of mutual interest. The meeting underscores a period of proactive diplomatic engagement between Doha and Caracas as geopolitical dynamics in the region continue to evolve.
During the official visit, Sheikh Mohammed conveyed greetings and best wishes from Qatar’s Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, which Rodríguez warmly reciprocated. Their discussions focused on strengthening strategic alliances and expanding partnerships in sectors such as energy, agriculture, tourism, culture, and education, reflecting a broadening agenda for cooperation between the two nations.
The visit takes place against a backdrop of complex regional developments following a significant political shift in Venezuela earlier in 2026, when acting president Rodríguez assumed leadership following the removal of former president Nicolás Maduro. Rodríguez’s interim presidency, recognized domestically under constitutional provisions, has coincided with heightened international diplomacy involving both the United States and countries like Qatar.
Qatar has sought to play a constructive diplomatic role amid global tensions and conflicts, leveraging its position as a mediator in several international disputes. Doha’s engagement with Caracas aligns with its wider foreign policy objectives of fostering dialogue and partnership across diverse regions.
The discussions in Caracas signal continued momentum in Qatar–Venezuela relations, with both sides expressing interest in deepening engagement and identifying new avenues for sustained cooperation in the years ahead.
