Saudi Arabia Launches Hexagon Data Centre, Poised to Be World’s Largest Government Data Hub
Saudi Arabia has officially launched the Hexagon Data Centre, a $2.7 billion project set to become the world’s largest government-run data facility, marking a major milestone in the Kingdom’s drive for digital sovereignty under Vision 2030. Located in Riyadh, the Tier IV facility spans over 30 million square feet and offers 480 megawatts of capacity, supporting more than 290 government systems with near-continuous uptime. Led by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority, the centre anchors a nationwide data network projected to generate over SAR 10 billion in economic impact and deliver SAR 1.8 billion in annual savings, reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s position as a regional tech powerhouse.
Meanwhile, the UAE is advancing its Stargate UAE project in Abu Dhabi a 200-megawatt AI compute cluster backed by G42, OpenAI, and Oracle, expected to be completed in 2026. Stargate UAE aims to become the largest AI-focused data hub outside the US, highlighting the Gulf’s rapid expansion in high-performance computing, AI innovation, and digital infrastructure. Together, these initiatives underline the Middle East’s growing leadership in data-driven technologies and smart governance.
