Northern Municipal Council Approves Self-Service Driving Licence Renewal Machines
A proposal to introduce electronic self-service machines in public locations, allowing residents to renew their driving licences without visiting government offices or accessing online platforms, has been approved by the Northern Municipal Council. The decision was endorsed during the council’s recent meeting, following a presentation by the services and public utilities committee on the proposal submitted by councillor Mohammed Al Dossary.
The initiative aims to streamline public services, reduce congestion at government departments, and provide residents with a more efficient and accessible way to complete routine transactions. While the proposal received broad support, it was noted that one senior council member voiced opposition, raising concerns during the discussion.
Despite this, the approval marks a significant step towards enhancing digital and automated public services, aligning with national efforts to modernise service delivery and improve convenience for residents.
