UK Issues Food Safety Warning Over Dubai-Style Chocolate Amid Allergy Concerns

Britain’s food safety authorities have issued a warning over the consumption of Dubai-style chocolate, cautioning that some products on sale in the UK may pose a serious risk to people with food allergies.

According to Sky News, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) has identified several Dubai-style chocolate products that fail to meet UK food safety and labelling requirements. The chocolate, which has surged in popularity over the past year, typically features a rich filling made from pistachio, tahini and shredded filo pastry.

The FSA said some products were found to contain peanut and sesame, two major allergens, without these ingredients being declared on the label. Rebecca Sudworth, the FSA’s Director of Policy, warned that this omission makes the products potentially dangerous for consumers with allergies.

“We’ve found that some products contain peanut and sesame that aren’t declared on the label,” Sudworth said, adding that affected consumers could be exposed to serious health risks if they unknowingly consume the chocolate.

The watchdog confirmed it is currently reviewing sampling data from Dubai-style chocolate products available in the UK to assess whether they comply with food safety standards. Until the investigation is complete, the FSA is advising people with allergies to avoid Dubai-style chocolate altogether as a precautionary measure.

The warning highlights growing concerns around imported and viral food products, particularly those sold online or through smaller retailers, where labelling standards may not always align with UK regulations.
