The Capital Governorate of Bahrain has officially confirmed the operational readiness of its Phase 1 Civil Emergency Shelters, marking a significant step in enhancing national preparedness for crises and natural disasters.

As part of a wider national initiative led by Bahrain’s Civil Defence and Ministry of Interior, these shelters are strategically located across the Capital Governorate to provide immediate refuge and safety for residents in times of emergency — including natural disasters, civil disruptions, or environmental hazards.

Key Features of the Shelters
Each approved shelter is fully equipped with:

  • Essential supplies such as food, water, first aid, and sanitation

  • Designated areas for families, children, and individuals with special needs

  • Emergency power and lighting systems

  • Trained personnel on-site for support, coordination, and medical assistance

The shelters are designed to support temporary relocation, ensuring that every citizen and resident has access to safe and secure accommodation during unexpected emergencies.

A Unified National Effort
The Capital Governorate joins Bahrain’s four other governorates — Northern, Southern, Muharraq, and Central — in establishing and certifying civil emergency shelters under the national Crisis and Disaster Management Plan. The initiative is aligned with directives from the National Taskforce for Crisis and Disaster Management, reinforcing Bahrain's commitment to public safety and resilience.

His Excellency the Governor of the Capital Governorate praised the efforts of all participating ministries, local councils, and civil defense teams, stating:

“We are proud to declare that the Capital Governorate is fully equipped and ready to protect its people in any emergency situation. These shelters are more than just buildings — they are symbols of national unity, care, and rapid response.”

Community Awareness & Drills
In parallel with the launch of the Phase 1 shelters, the governorate has initiated awareness campaigns to educate residents on shelter locations, entry procedures, and what to do in the event of an emergency. Regular evacuation drills and simulations are also planned to maintain community readiness.

 A Model for Regional Preparedness
Bahrain’s approach to civil shelter development is being recognized as a regional model for emergency planning, combining efficient infrastructure with proactive governance and community involvement.

As the country continues its work toward full shelter coverage under Phase 2, citizens are encouraged to stay informed through official channels and participate in safety drills when available.
