Bahrain introduces BD 2 passenger registration fee at Bahrain International Airport from April 2026

Bahrain’s Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications (MTT) has announced the introduction of a new Passenger Registration Fee for travelers using Bahrain International Airport (BIA), marking a change in airport-related charges for both departing and transit passengers.

Formally referred to as the Passenger Name Record (PNR) Registration Fee, the charge has been established under Ministerial Decision No. 18 of 2025. The fee will come into effect on April 24, 2026, following its publication in the Official Gazette on December 25, 2025.

The new fee has been set at BD 2 per passenger, equivalent to approximately USD 5.30. It will apply to all passengers departing from Bahrain as well as those transiting through the airport. Previously, transit passengers were subject to a lower charge of BD 1, making this a notable revision to the existing fee structure.

According to the Ministry, the Passenger Registration Fee will be integrated directly into airline ticket prices at the time of booking, ensuring a streamlined payment process without separate charges at the airport.

Revenue generated from the fee will be directed toward supporting Bahrain International Airport’s ongoing modernization initiatives. These include infrastructure upgrades, digital transformation projects, and the deployment of advanced technologies such as automated baggage handling systems and biometric passenger processing.

The move reflects Bahrain’s broader strategy to enhance airport efficiency, improve passenger experience, and maintain BIA’s competitiveness as a regional aviation hub.
