All Eyes on the Skies as Blood Moon Dazzles Bahrain

Scores of star-gazers across Bahrain were treated to a spectacular celestial show last night, as a rare total lunar eclipse transformed the full moon into a glowing crimson orb.

The striking blood moon coincided with the full moon of Rabi Al Awwal, the first month of spring in the Islamic lunar calendar, adding cultural and astronomical significance to the event.

This rare phenomenon, last seen in July 2018, drew people outdoors with cameras, telescopes, and wide-eyed wonder as the Earth’s shadow slowly moved across the moon, bathing it in shades of deep red and orange. Astronomers explain that the reddish hue is caused by sunlight refracting through Earth's atmosphere the same reason sunsets appear red.

Local astronomy groups and enthusiasts gathered at various locations across the kingdom to observe the eclipse, which began shortly after moonrise and lasted for several hours.

The next opportunity to witness a similar event in Bahrain won’t come until December 31, 2028, making last night’s eclipse a truly memorable experience for those lucky enough to see it.
