ENEC Launches Graduate Plant Operator Programme to Empower Emirati Engineers
In a strategic move to bolster the UAE’s nuclear energy expertise, the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) has introduced the Graduate Plant Operator (GPO) Programme, aimed at high-achieving Emirati engineering graduates. This initiative provides a fast-tracked, immersive pathway into nuclear operations at the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant. Selected candidates begin their careers as Local Operators, undergoing rigorous practical training that familiarizes them with the functioning of an operating nuclear facility. After three years, they are advanced to Senior Reactor Operator training, preparing them to lead in plant operations, maintenance, and testing with unwavering focus on safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance
The GPO programme is part of ENEC’s broader Graduate Development Program (GDP) and forms a critical pillar in its educational ecosystem. Together, these programmes underpin the company’s long-term strategy to nurture a skilled Emirati workforce capable of sustaining the nation’s peaceful nuclear energy programme. In support of this vision, ENEC has also forged a partnership with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MoHESR) under this collaboration, a stream of Emirati students in engineering fields, including nuclear and mechanical disciplines, will receive scholarships and structured training opportunities, with pathways leading to employment at ENEC post-graduation
