Saudi Arabia Inaugurates Safwa–Rahima Road and 3.2 km Sea Bridge in Eastern Province
Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province witnessed a major infrastructure milestone on Sunday as Prince Saud bin Nayef inaugurated the Safwa–Rahima Road, a new 15-kilometer route connecting Safwa in Qatif with Ras Tanura. Central to the project is a 3.2-kilometer twin sea bridge, considered one of the longest of its kind in the Kingdom, designed to enhance mobility, reduce congestion, and support the region’s rapidly expanding economic and logistics sectors.
As part of the inauguration ceremony, Prince Saud also opened the upgraded intersections along the Dhahran–Buqayq–Abu Hadriyah highway, which now include five new bridges, enhanced lighting systems, and improved rainwater drainage infrastructure. The event was attended by Transport Minister Saleh Al-Jasser, Acting CEO of the General Authority for Roads Eng. Badr Al-Dulaimi, and a number of senior officials.
Prince Saud praised the leadership’s continued investment in strategic development across the Eastern Province, noting that the new road and interchange enhancements will significantly improve traffic flow, elevate safety standards, and contribute to better quality of life for residents. He commended the Ministry of Transport, the General Authority for Roads, and all engineers and teams involved for their efficient planning, coordination, and execution.
Transport Minister Al-Jasser highlighted the strategic importance of the new sea bridge, saying it provides an additional direct access point to Ras Tanura Port, strengthening supply-chain reliability and efficiency. He noted that the Safwa–Rahima Road forms a vital link to key regional routes, including the Dammam–Jubail Highway, supporting the movement of goods and people between highly populated and industrial areas.
Al-Jasser added that the upgraded intersections on the Dhahran–Buqayq–Abu Hadriyah highway feature new service ramps and directional connections, improving access for traffic coming from Buqayq, King Abdulaziz Port, Bahrain, and Aramco’s Ajyal community. These enhancements, he said, will help ease congestion and boost overall connectivity to major economic destinations.
