ERC Supports Mass Wedding of 500 Young Yemenis in Mokha
The city of Mokha witnessed a major celebration as 500 young Yemeni men and women were married in the fifth mass wedding initiative supported by the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC). The large-scale ceremony brought together couples from districts across Yemen’s western coast, particularly in the governorates of Hodeida and Taiz.
Held under the patronage of Lieutenant General Tariq Saleh, Vice President of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council and Head of the National Resistance’s Political Bureau, the event received strong backing from both the ERC and the National Resistance. This year’s celebration was organised under the theme “The Joy of a Nation”, emphasizing unity, cultural pride, and social cohesion.
Supporting Social Stability and Reducing Financial Burdens
The initiative is part of the ERC’s ongoing efforts to promote social stability, alleviate the financial pressures associated with marriage, and help young Yemenis build secure, productive futures. By supporting mass weddings, the ERC continues to strengthen community bonds and empower families across the country.
Lieutenant General Tariq Saleh congratulated the newlyweds, wishing them happiness and stability as they begin their married lives. He encouraged them to become the foundation of strong families contributing positively to their communities. He also praised the traditional garments worn during the celebration, noting how they reflected Yemen’s rich heritage and national identity.
Regional Leaders Express Gratitude
Hodeida Governor Dr Hassan Taher and Abdulwahab Al Amer, Secretary-General of the National Resistance’s Political Bureau, expressed deep gratitude to the UAE leadership and people for their continued humanitarian and development support to Yemen’s western coast.
A Festive Cultural Celebration
The festivities featured vibrant traditional performances by the Crater troupe, adding joyful energy to the event for couples and families alike. The celebration was attended by political, military, and local leaders, as well as officials from western coastal regions, highlighting the significance of the initiative for the broader community.
The mass wedding stands as another milestone in ongoing efforts to support stability, unity, and hope for Yemen’s younger generations.
