Saudi Arabia Takes Fitness to New Heights with World’s Highest Gym Class in Riyadh

Saudi Arabia is redefining the fitness experience in 2026 with the launch of what is being billed as the world’s highest gym class, offering participants a workout session more than 2,200 feet (670.56 metres) above Riyadh.

GymNation has introduced the one-of-a-kind experience in the Saudi capital, combining fitness, adventure and breathtaking views. The 30-minute workout takes place inside a hot air balloon soaring high above the city, giving participants a truly elevated approach to exercise.

The class is designed around high-altitude training, a technique commonly used by endurance athletes to enhance performance. Each session begins with a warm-up on the ground, followed by a strength and conditioning workout conducted mid-air using a mix of bodyweight exercises and weights.

Adding a playful twist to the routine, GymNation has renamed several workout moves to match the sky-high setting. Exercises include “Cloud Crushers,” better known as squats, and “Bicep Take-offs,” a creative take on bicep curls.

The concept was developed by the GymNation fitness team in collaboration with sports scientist Aderito Manuel. Classes will run every Saturday throughout January, though spaces are extremely limited. Due to expected high demand, participants will be selected via a ballot system, with interested fitness enthusiasts required to register in advance.

Sessions begin at 6am, allowing attendees to work out during sunrise while enjoying uninterrupted panoramic views of Riyadh’s iconic skyline. Landmarks visible from the balloon include Kingdom Tower, Al Faisaliah Tower and Majdoul Tower, making the experience as visually memorable as it is physically challenging.

The initiative reflects Saudi Arabia’s growing focus on innovative lifestyle experiences, blending wellness, tourism and adventure in new and exciting ways.
