Fully Driverless Robotaxis Launch in Abu Dhabi: Here’s How You Can Book Your Ride

The UAE has taken a landmark step into the future of transportation as fully driverless robotaxis are now officially available for public use in Abu Dhabi. In a global first for the Uber platform outside the United States, residents and visitors can now hail Level 4 autonomous vehicles on Yas Island without a driver or safety specialist onboard.

The breakthrough service comes through a partnership between WeRide and Uber, marking the Middle East’s first commercial deployment of fully driverless robotaxis. Riders can book trips through Uber Comfort, UberX, or the newly added autonomous ride category, which has already been integrated into the Uber app. According to the platform, robotaxi services are available daily from 10am to 4pm.

This launch follows the companies’ earlier collaboration in 2024 and the expansion announced in July 2025, covering nearly half of Abu Dhabi’s core areas including Al Reem and Al Maryah Islands. By the end of 2025, both companies aim to extend the service further across the capital. WeRide now operates over 100 robotaxis across the Middle East, making Abu Dhabi one of the world’s leading cities in autonomous mobility.

For passengers, the service promises a smooth, futuristic travel experience on key routes such as those around Yas Island popular for leisure, entertainment, and events. With no human driver required, journeys are expected to be seamless and potentially faster during peak hours.

Abu Dhabi’s leap into fully driverless ride-hailing signals the region’s growing commitment to smart mobility, innovation, and sustainable urban transport placing the UAE firmly at the forefront of global autonomous vehicle adoption.
