SFDA Advises Parents to Discard Select Nestlé Infant Formula Products

Saudi Arabia’s food safety regulator has issued a precautionary advisory urging consumers not to use specific Nestlé infant formula products due to a potential contamination risk.

The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) said the notice follows a voluntary recall initiated by Nestlé involving formula sold under the Nan, Alfamino, S-26 Gold and S-26 Ultima brands. According to the Saudi Press Agency, the affected products may contain cereulide, a toxin associated with the Bacillus cereus bacteria that can be harmful to infants.

Authorities emphasised that the move is preventive, noting that no cases of illness have been recorded in the Kingdom so far. Nonetheless, exposure to the toxin may cause symptoms such as nausea, persistent vomiting and abdominal pain, which are of particular concern in young children.

The SFDA has instructed consumers who possess the affected products to dispose of them immediately. It added that coordination is underway with Nestlé to ensure all recalled items are withdrawn from the market, with inspections ongoing to monitor compliance.

Parents and caregivers can find full product and batch number details on the SFDA’s official website. The authority also encouraged the public to report any food safety issues through its consumer hotline on 19999.
