Daayra wraps filming as Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran gear up for 2026 release
Meghna Gulzar’s much-anticipated crime-drama thriller Daayra has officially wrapped filming, with lead stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran completing their portions. The film is slated to hit theaters in 2026.
Prithviraj announced the wrap with a behind-the-scenes photo on Instagram, featuring himself with Kareena and director Meghna Gulzar. Sharing his excitement, the actor wrote that the story they lived on set would soon reach audiences, adding that he was grateful for the journey and eager for viewers to experience the film on the big screen.
Daayra marks Meghna Gulzar’s return to the director’s chair after Sam Bahadur and continues her exploration of layered, socially rooted narratives, following acclaimed films such as Raazi and Chhapaak. The filmmaker—daughter of legendary lyricist Gulzar and veteran actor Raakhee—began shooting the project in September, announcing it with a montage from the sets that hinted at a story of “blurred and crossed lines.”
Ayushmann Khurrana was originally attached as the male lead but exited the project due to reported scheduling conflicts. Prithviraj Sukumaran later came on board, pairing opposite Kareena Kapoor Khan for the first time.
Earlier this month, Kareena offered a glimpse into her experience on Daayra while wishing Meghna Gulzar on her birthday. Calling the film one of her most special projects, Kareena praised the director’s sensitivity and sharp storytelling, describing the collaboration as deeply fulfilling. She also expressed eagerness for audiences to witness what she termed Meghna’s “genius” when the film releases.
With filming now complete, Daayra moves into post-production, building anticipation for a 2026 theatrical release led by two powerhouse performers under Meghna Gulzar’s direction.
