Influencers in Kuwait Now Required to Obtain Licences for Promotional Content

Kuwait has introduced a new regulation requiring social media influencers to obtain official licences before posting promotional content online. The move comes as part of the government’s efforts to regulate digital advertising, ensure transparency, and maintain accountability in the rapidly growing influencer marketing industry.
Under the new rules, influencers must apply for a license from the Ministry of Information to legally run paid promotions, endorsements, or advertisements on platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Snapchat. Without this license, individuals could face fines or legal action.
The regulation aims to create a fairer environment for businesses, protect consumers from misleading promotions, and provide the government with oversight of influencer-driven advertising. It also aligns Kuwait with several other Gulf nations that have already established influencer licensing systems.
Officials have stated that this step is not meant to discourage creativity but to formalize the industry and ensure that influencers operate under clear legal and ethical guidelines.
For influencers, the new licensing process may introduce additional costs and requirements, but for brands and consumers, it could enhance trust and credibility in online promotions.
