Saudi Arabia Issues Weather Alert as Heavy Rains, Thunderstorms and Flash Floods Expected From Tuesday

Saudi Arabia is bracing for several days of unstable weather as the National Centre for Meteorology (NCM) warned that a strong weather system will bring heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, hail, and flash flood risks from Tuesday through Friday. According to the latest forecasts, the system is expected to intensify over the western and northern parts of the Kingdom before extending toward southwestern regions.

The impacted areas include Jeddah, Mecca, Medina, Tabuk, Al Jouf, the Northern Borders Region, Hail, Al Baha, Asir, and Jazan, where rainfall intensity is expected to fluctuate between light, moderate, and heavy at intervals. Some locations may experience hail showers, strong downdrafts, and reduced visibility due to rising dust and turbulent conditions.

Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid risky areas, particularly valleys, floodplains, and low-lying zones prone to water accumulation. The Mecca Crisis and Disaster Management Centre has advised motorists to drive cautiously on highways and to stay away from areas where water may quickly gather during sudden downpours. Officials warned that several governorates may witness repeated cycles of heavy rain and thunderstorms over the coming days.

The National Centre for Meteorology said it will continue issuing real-time updates as the weather pattern evolves. Meanwhile, emergency teams and civil defence units have been placed on heightened alert to respond swiftly to any incidents triggered by the severe conditions.

Residents across affected regions are encouraged to monitor official weather channels, follow safety instructions, and take all necessary precautions as the Kingdom prepares for potentially hazardous weather.
