Bahrain courts reopen in phases as judicial operations resume after precautionary pause

Most courts across Bahrain have resumed operations on Sunday, March 29, 2026, marking a phased return to normal judicial activity following recent precautionary suspensions linked to regional security developments.

According to updates, while the majority of courts reopened on Sunday, civil, commercial, and labor courts are scheduled to resume proceedings on March 31, 2026.

The phased reopening reflects a cautious approach by authorities to ensure the safety of judicial staff, legal professionals, and the public while gradually restoring full court functionality across the kingdom.

Earlier this month, Bahrain had temporarily suspended court sessions as a preventive measure amid heightened regional tensions and security concerns. Authorities later confirmed that judicial services would resume in stages, supported by both in-person and digital systems.

During the suspension period, Bahrain accelerated the use of remote litigation services, particularly for civil proceedings. Since March 8, many hearings have been conducted online through the Ministry of Justice’s digital platform, allowing parties to attend sessions, submit documents, and follow proceedings remotely while maintaining legal safeguards.

The country’s judiciary, which includes civil, criminal, and Sharia courts, plays a central role in handling a wide range of legal matters, from commercial disputes to personal status cases.

The reopening comes at a time when Bahrain continues to navigate the broader impact of ongoing regional tensions. Recent incidents linked to the conflict have affected infrastructure and public services, prompting authorities to prioritize continuity plans across key sectors, including the justice system.

Officials have emphasized that the phased resumption ensures both operational efficiency and public safety, with courts expected to fully stabilize operations in the coming days. The continued integration of digital services is also likely to remain a key feature of Bahrain’s judicial system, even as in-person hearings gradually return.
