Qatar and Bahrain launch new passenger-only ferry service to enhance GCC connectivity

A new ferry service exclusively for passengers has been launched between Qatar and Bahrain, marking a significant step toward strengthening cross-Gulf mobility and reinforcing regional cooperation within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

The scheduled route connects Al-Ruwais Port in northern Qatar with Sa’ada Marina in Bahrain, covering a distance of approximately 35 nautical miles (around 65 kilometers). Designed to simplify travel across GCC borders, the service highlights growing collaboration between the two neighboring states.

Initially open only to citizens of GCC member countries, the ferry will operate two round trips daily from 7 to 12 November before expanding to three daily round journeys from 13 to 22 November. Future schedules will be adjusted based on passenger demand.

Qatar’s Minister of Transport, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Mohammed Al Thani, described the initiative as “a groundbreaking strategic step that reflects the depth of the brotherly bonds between the two countries and enhances the ties of cooperation and integration between the GCC countries.”

He emphasized that the project represents Qatar’s intent to build developmental and strategic partnerships with Bahrain, advancing transport and logistics sectors to promote economic cohesion and shared growth across the Gulf.

The Ministry of Transport in Qatar and Bahrain’s Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications (MTT) jointly implemented the service, ensuring the highest standards of safety, security, and operational quality for a seamless travel experience. Both ministries expressed appreciation to all entities involved in bringing the project to fruition.

The ferry crossing takes approximately 70 to 80 minutes, with tickets available for booking via the MASAR app. Passengers can choose between standard and VIP vessels, accommodating 28 and 32 travelers, respectively. Each vessel offers modern onboard amenities, with all journeys adhering to the customs and security regulations of both Qatar and Bahrain.

This initiative not only strengthens transport connectivity but also symbolizes the growing spirit of regional unity and integration within the GCC.
